Where’s the best place to find travel information?

I’d like to travel across American next Summer (from the beginning of June 2011) and I’m trying to figure out the best way to go about it, whether to plan it myself with railway travel or to book it through a company with pre-planned tours. Any suggestions?

I recently saw an article highlighting what the people of Japan find to be "bad rail manners" and am writing an article about this topic as it relates to other cultures as well. I’m having trouble finding information. Does anyone have some good sources? I’m looking for the differences in train travel etiquette amongst various cultures/regions of the world. Thanks for your help!

my youth group is going on a pilgrimage this year and we need to research some of our different options, does anyone know any good websites that would have helpful information? preferably something less commercial..

It would be useful to know which country in Europe your group intends to go on pilgrimage and the particular pilgrimage site, and which country you come from. Then people can recommend specific information and websites. And what sort of information are you after, flights, trains, hotel/hostel recommendations?
